Lenten Program 2021

From our Interim Rector, Fr. Stormer:

This year’s Lenten Program will focus

on the Parables that are in gospel.  We

will use the book written by Dr. John

Claypool, Stories Jesus Still Tells.  I will

do a lecture program on Zoom on

Wednesday evenings at 7 pm.  You do

not need the book to attend the

Wednesday night program, but it will

help.  But if you want the book to do

your own program, I will make it available.

Dr. John Claypool was an Episcopal Priest who came over from the Baptist Church.  He was a noted preacher and teacher in his day and rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham AL in the 1980’ and 90’s.  He died September 3, 2005 of cancer at the age of 74.

Each Wednesday I will have the Eucharist with Lenten readings for those who wish to attend at 5:30 pm in church.

Ash Wednesday February 17th we will have two services like last year.  One at Noon and One at 5:30 pm.  Both services will be in the church and use the service of Ashes as in the prayer book.

On Wednesday, February 17th at 7 pm I will begin the Lectures series on Zoom with the introduction to the parables.  For those doing their private Lenten reading just read the Introduction about why Jesus uses parables in the book.

For those who do not do internet or zoom, I will do the lecture in the church hall for Bible Study at 10 am on Fridays as we have been doing with New Testament Series.  The hall provides us with lots of space to be a safe distance from one another and with the big screen TV you can see the slides easily.

On Wednesday, February 24th, the lecture will focus on the Kingdom parables of Jesus found in Matthew’s, Mark’s, and Luke’s gospels.  Chapter one of the book.  This lesson will be repeated on Friday 24th at the bible study.

On Wednesday, March 3rd, the lecture will focus on the parable of the Vineyard owner and the Talents.  Chapters 2 & 3 of the book.  Again, this will be repeated on Friday at the bible study.

On Wednesday, March 10th, the lecture will focus on the parables of the Great Banquet and the Petulant Children Chapters 4 & 5 of the book.

On Wednesday, March 17th, the feast of St. Patrick the lecture focus on the parables of Who is my neighbor and the Midnight request.  Chapters 6 & 7 of the book.

On Wednesday, March 24th, the lecture will focus on the parables of the rich fool and the Pharisee and Republican.  Chapters 8 & 9 of the book.

On Wednesday in Holy Week March 31st, the lecture will focus on the parable of the final judgement which is Chapter 10 of the book.
